The Spiritual Exercises
Growing in Christ

“Nothing they have imagined they could do would be impossible for them” (Gen. 11:16, AMB). God has given us a tremendous gift in our ability to imagine, and the Spiritual Exercises allow us to use that gift for reaching the most noble of goals, falling more deeply in love with Christ. This is an experiential workshop in which I'll lead you in imaginative Scriptural prayer. This prayer format will accelerate your pace on the spiritual journey that God has invited you to make.

When we speak of the spiritual journey, we speak of a journey home. As we develop the awareness of Christ's real presence within us, we come home to the peace that is God's greatest gift. This presentation is about finding the inner sense of well-being that experiencing God's unending love for us brings.

In God, we do not need the past to give us our identity. Our identity is rooted in Him. We no longer need the future and its accomplishments to fulfill us. We are complete in God. There is a time to relish beautiful memories, there is a time to plan for our future. But in most moments, the time is now. God meets us in the present moment. Our intimate relationship with God allows us to realize the possibilities this moment holds. Life no longer slips through our fingers as we obsess about the past or future.

In my years of leading retreats, teaching Scripture, and providing individual spiritual direction, I've found that God reaches out to each of us uniquely, honoring who He has created us to be. Our desire to connect with Him is all that is needed. During our time together you will begin to see the best ways for you to grow in Christ. This presentation will include: praying with Scripture, allowing it to touch our hearts as well as our minds; increasing our love for God as a key to joy; becoming more aware of God's presence in the moment, in daily life; acceptance as one of the deepest forms of prayer; God's methods of communication.

We'll discuss and you'll experience the sacredness of silence, of resting in the Lord. In our deepest relationships, words are often unneeded, interrupting rather than creating union. We can sit with our closest loved one and just absorb their presence. Likewise, we can just enjoy being with God, who says: "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10).

This presentation can be geared to people of all ages and interests.
